How Notchless handles local menu bar data and optional diagnostics.

Overview

Notchless is a macOS utility for opening menu bar apps from the keyboard and recovering icons hidden by the MacBook notch. Normal app operation does not require a Notchless backend.

Local App Data

Notchless scans menu bar apps through macOS Accessibility permission so it can search and open them locally. Menu bar app names, icons, menu titles, and screen coordinates are used on your Mac for scan, search, and open actions.

This local app data is not uploaded during normal use. Notchless does not collect screenshots, screen recordings, OCR output, or the contents of your keystrokes.

Diagnostics

The "Send diagnostics" preference is on by default and can be disabled in the app. When diagnostics are enabled, Notchless may send crash reports and Quick Open outcomes so we can understand reliability during beta use.

Diagnostics may include:

  • Crash report details.
  • Quick Open success or failure outcomes.
  • Target app bundle identifiers.
  • A random install ID.
  • License email when a license is present.
  • Your Mac account name or display name.
  • IP address, as provided by the diagnostics provider.

Diagnostics do not include app display names, menu titles, license keys, screenshots, screen recordings, OCR output, or keystroke contents.

License And Support Data

If you contact us or use a future license workflow, we may process the information you provide, such as your email address and messages. Paid license handling is not required for the beta download unless checkout is explicitly enabled.

Third Parties

We do not sell personal information. Diagnostics may be processed by a third-party crash reporting provider. Payment or license providers may be used when paid checkout is enabled.

Your Choices

You can disable "Send diagnostics" in Notchless. You can also remove Accessibility permission for Notchless in macOS System Settings, though the app will not be able to scan or open menu bar apps without that permission.

We may update this policy as Notchless changes. The updated date above shows when the current version took effect.
